Birth/Perinatal Trauma

I have a particular interest in supporting people to heal from Birth Trauma. I can offer support for mothers, fathers, birth partners and healthcare professionals. It may be that your birth was recent or many months or years ago. Perhaps you are wanting to process your emotions before planning another pregnancy.

Even if your birth appeared to have been medically ‘straightforward’ to others, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t traumatic. Often birth trauma can stem from how you felt in the moment for example: ignored, confused, dismissed, scared, out of control. It can be very hard to move forward from what happened with the added pressure of having a baby to take care of as well.

After experiencing Birth Trauma people often experience emotions such as grief, guilt, anxiety, shame, sadness and anger.

It may feel hard to stop remembering what happened to you. I can help you to navigate and process these feelings and memories.

I can offer support with the following:

  • Birth Trauma
  • Perinatal Trauma
  • NICU Trauma
  • Miscarriage
  • Loss
  • Fertility
  • Termination for medical reasons (TFMR)
  • Termination

Emotion Focused Birth Debrief

Some people may wish to come for a one off session where they talk about their birth experience and tell me their story.

In this session, I can offer compassionate listening, make some reflections and suggest resources that might help you. The debrief is focused around how you felt during your birth experience.

I will not be able to offer any medical advice or opinions regarding your birth experience. You should be able to request a medically focused birth debrief with a midwife or obstetrician if you gave birth in an NHS hospital. I can also not offer any legal advice regarding your experience.

It is worth noting that people often do need more than a one off session to process ongoing trauma symptoms. A birth debrief may be helpful to see if I would be a good fit as a therapist for you, we would still need to book an initial assessment appointment after the birth debrief if this is something you wanted to explore with me.
