Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a Clinical Psychologist?
The terms "counsellor" "therapist" and even "psychologist" are not protected title's in the UK, therefore anyone can use them even without any training or professional qualifications. Unfortunately this means some untrained and unsafe people can practice clinically.
"Clinical Psychologist" is a protected professional title and requires a high level of training to doctorate level and registration with an accrediting body (HCPC). Clinical Psychologists are trained to work across the lifespan from children to older adults with multiple therapy modalities. We also have high level research skills allowing us to understand and evaluate the evidence base, selecting the most effective psychological interventions for our clients.
How much does it cost?
Please click on the 'Pricing' tab for more information. 1:1 therapy sessions are £120 for 50 minutes. Payment is required via bank transfer by 48 hours prior to planned appointments. I am currently only taking self-funding clients.
How many sessions does it take?
This varies depending on the individual and particularly relating to trauma processing as we may find as we process what seems to be an isolated trauma that other related memories pop up that you also wish to process. I can offer short term therapy 6-12 sessions and long term therapy 20+ sessions. I also offer one off emotionally focused birth debriefs and one off cogntive assessments.
What type of therapy do you use?
Please see 'Trauma Therapy/EMDR' tab for more information. I draw on a range of models including EMDR, Schema Therapy, CBT and CFT.
Do you see people face to face or online?
I can book therapy rooms on a weekly basis in Anersham, Buckinghamshire as needed by my clients for face to face sessions. I can also offer online sessions.
Can I talk to you between sessions?
I work limited hours and therefore am not able to provide crisis support or support outside of our weekly therapy sessions. If you need additional support please contact your GP, 111, 999 or the Samaritans 116 123. If you need to cancel appointment please email me within 48 hours of the appointment time.
Do you just work with birth trauma?
No, birth trauma special interest of mine but I can offer psychological interventions for other types of trauma as well.
